Distributed Acoustic Sensing

FortSense Ultra

Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) System

FortSense Ultra transforms standard single-mode fiber optic cables into thousands of virtual microphones. Using Coherent OTDR technology, it detects and classifies acoustic vibrations along the entire length of the fiber in real time — delivering enterprise-grade perimeter security and infrastructure protection in a compact 2U chassis.

Coherent OTDR

Coherent OTDR (C-OTDR) is the optical technique behind DAS — it turns the fiber itself into a continuous, fully passive acoustic sensor.

High Precision

Pinpoints events to within ±4 meters anywhere along the sensing fiber.

Simple Integration

Connects over Ethernet and integrates with SCADA and VMS platforms out of the box.

SIL-2 Certified

Meets the IEC 61508 functional safety standard for critical infrastructure.

Configurable

Acquisition frequency is tunable from 10 Hz to 2,000 Hz to match each application.

Application Possibilities

A single FortSense Ultra interrogator protects long, distributed assets across a wide range of environments.

Oil & Gas Pipelines

Detect third-party interference, leaks, and intrusion along buried or surface pipelines.

Border Security

Continuous monitoring of extended borders with no power or electronics in the field.

Perimeter Security

Real-time detection of cutting, climbing, and digging at fences, walls, and boundaries.

Railway Monitoring

Track intrusion, rockfall, and asset health along rail corridors.

Highway Monitoring

Monitor traffic flow and roadside events across long highway sections.

Telecommunications

Protect fiber routes and detect third-party digging before cables are damaged.

Power Transmission

Safeguard transmission corridors and detect tampering with towers and lines.

Seismic Monitoring

Capture vibration and seismic activity along the full length of the fiber.

How FortSense Ultra Works

Standard single-mode fiber becomes the sensor. The FortSense Ultra interrogator analyzes back-scattered light in real time and streams classified events to the FortSense UI software over Ethernet.

Single-mode Fiber

Up to 50 km of standard fiber acts as a continuous acoustic sensor.
